I thought I would start sort of a picture blog. I'm not that into taking pictures, but I am going to try to be.
Today was a bit of an odd day. Usually we spend Wednesday washing all of the eggs that are laid on the farm. Instead we headed over to Sunfield, a near bye farm to learn all about Community Supported Agriculture(CSA).
Real quick a CSA is a direct way of providing farm fresh food to the community. Basically in the beginning of a season people sign up with a farmer for a share a produce. They usually pay at this time for fresh fruits, and vegetables at this time. The farmer can then buy seeds, and pay for other things such as irrigation and equipment that they need to grow food. When the CSA starts member are provided each week with a box and fresh food and vegetables Its a way that the community can be directly involved in the growing of food.
I started off the day harvesting some of this
lovely springrain celery for the food bank.
I also feed some of the celery to our hungry mama rabbit Brown Betty.
She has a nest of baby bunnies, but they did not make it into this picture.
After the celery was cleaned and boxed we headed over to the food bank. Molly and Catherine my fellow interns are ready for delivery.
Molly also manages a greenhouse at the Chimacum Corner for the food bank. Here is her bounty this week for the week, lovely tomatoes, peppers.

Before heading over to Sunfield we went to one of our favorite cafes, Farms Reach for Breakfast. This cafe is a local business that does its best to support local farms. They buy our eggs, and today they had scones made with SpringRain grown raspberries.

We then started class at Sunfield. Sunfield is a biodynamic farm that has a school and a CSA. Our FIELD class had our weekly class here to learn the nuts and bolts of how to run a CSA.
We started with an harvest board. Vegetables that needing picking for the CSA pickup where listed.
We then headed out to harvest. Eli and Jenna our two other FIELD interns, and they are on the left and right of me.

Afterwards we shucked the corn that we couldn't eat. I tried to make one of the chickens help me, but she wasn't a big help.

I'll try to explain some more about FIELD and SpringRain and what I am doing up here in Washington later, hopefully along with some pictures.
